Dekupaž ili DECOUPAGE dolazi od francuske reči decouper koja u prevodu znači ‘ iseći, isecati’. Sama tehnika rada je isecanje i aranžiranje delova papira i njegovo lepljenje na obojenu ili drugačije pripremljenu površinu, te lakiranje.
Tehnika je na prostor Evrope dospela u 12. veku iz Kine, gde su kineski seljaci upotrebljavali papir živih boja za dekorisanje prozora, lampiona, kutija za poklone i dr., a još dublje korene vuče iz istočnog Sibira. Svoj procvat u Evropi dekupaž doživljava u 17. veku, kada su ga venecijanski majstori koristili kao vrstu dekoracije nameštaja i ubrzo je imao poklonike u najpoznatijim ljudima tog vremena - Madam de Pompadur, Marija Antoaneta, kasnije čak i Matis i Pikaso koriste ovu tehniku.
Do današnjeg vremena, originalna tehnika se razvijala i evoluirala u mnogo različitih stilova i novih tehnika. Jedna od najpoznatijih je i ‘salvetna tehnika’, koja ima svoje posebnosti i načine izrade.

Or DECOUPAGE Decoupage comes from the French word découper which translated means 'cut, isecati'. The technique of cutting and arranging the pieces of paper and its adhesion to painted or otherwise prepared surface and varnished.
The technique has matured to the area of Europe in the 12th century from China, where Chinese farmers have used colorful paper to decorate windows, lanterns, gift boxes, etc.. and even deeper roots in Eastern Siberia. Emerging in Europe decoupage seen in the 17 century, when it was used by Venetian masters as a type of decoration furniture, and soon had the fans of the most famous artists of that time - Madame de Pompadour, Marie Antoinette, later even Matisse and Picasso used this technique.
Until the present time, the original technique has been developed and evolved in many different styles and new techniques. One of the most famous is the 'salvetna technique', which has its own peculiarities and ways of making.
